Heart disease is the number one killer of women. To increase awareness among women about the importance of getting rapid and appropriate treatment when experiencing symptoms of a heart attack, Parrish Medical Center has launched an aggressive awareness campaign called Women & Heart Disease.
This program is designed to increase awareness of heart disease and help you recognize the risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cigarette smoking and obesity.
You should also learn the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. But most importantly, if you experience symptoms, it's essential that you seek medical treatment within one hour of symptom onset, because this is when drugs and other treatments will be most effective. With a little effort on your part, you have the potential to add years to your life.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. Each year, nearly twice as many women die from cardiovascular disease than the next 16 causes of death – combined.
