Life at PMC

When planning our medical center, we adopted Disney’s philosophy of design. The décor and aesthetics of visitor areas are visually different from the clinical spaces to provide visual separation of space, and the work corridors have been designed to be out of sight of the patients/visitors. Inpatients are not transported through public areas but have dedicated elevators and routes to respect their privacy and dignity. Maintenance caregivers are located in a separate building and have dedicated routes and elevators to conduct business. Food Service hosts and hostesses also have dedicated routes and elevators. Visitor elevators are located in the atrium area, which is our primary “on-stage” area.

Each department has its own caregiver lounge equipped with coffee makers, refrigerators, microwaves, and comfortable furnishings. The outdoor pavilion and courtyard provide restful and serene retreats for caregivers. The courtyard features a large water feature and pavilion with ceiling fans and dining tables. Several landscaped seating areas have been provided throughout the campus for quite reflection. The entire campus has been designed and landscaped with meandering paths to encourage relaxing walks for mind/body/spirit wellness during breaks or before and after shifts.

Our “off-stage” areas are designed in keeping with our overall healing environment theme. We want the healing experience to encompass our caregivers. Color, light, oversized windows, artwork, and access to nature have all been incorporate into the design of caregiver areas. Caregivers are encouraged to personalize their respective lounge areas to reflect the spirit and personality of the care team.

We do not believe in differentiating on-stage and off-stage behavior. We strive to be healing, respectful, loving and caring at all times not just to our patients but also to one another. The quality of the work life must be supportive and caring in order for caregivers to be at their best at all times. PMC’s expected caregiver behaviors are that each PMC caregiver lives our shared values each and every day.

We have included our values and associated behaviors within our annual evaluations. The employees were involved in defining our values as well as defining what the associated behaviors meant for PMC.
