News Releases
The Brevard County Chaplains’ Day will be held on Friday,
October 19, 2012. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program will be held
from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Parrish Medical Center, 951 N. Washington Ave.,
Titusville, FL 32796. This workshop is free, including course materials,
continental breakfast, lunch, and door prizes.
This 4th annual
Brevard County Chaplains Day is a joint effort with Health First’s Department
of Pastoral Care, VNA Hospice Pastoral Care and Parrish Medical Center. The
workshop is sponsored by Glenbrooke at Palm Bay, SETA, Ammen Family Funeral
Homes and North Brevard Funeral Home.
Chaplains
will learn how to offer spiritual support in unique communities, such as
veteran transitions, aging, substance abuse, domestic violence, diversity, and
community care.
Chaplains
serving in any capacity in Brevard County and surrounding counties are invited
to attend, including those in law enforcement, fire, crisis response teams,
military, port, jail/prisons, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, assisted
living sites, or schools. Full-time, part-time, volunteer, active and/or
retired persons are welcome.
Among
other things, the program will help participants learn to understand issues of
returning soldiers and identify effective interventions and community
resources. They will learn to identify components of “compassionate fatigue”
and methods to prevent it, how to recognize signs of dementia, identify needs
of caregivers, as well as local and national resources. They will also learn to
understand the scope of domestic violence and learn to identify ways to address
it, including avenues of partnership with existing community agencies.
For
